ABC (Active Body Control) Program
Telemedicine innovation for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

The ABC (Active Body Control) Program has been created by Prof. Dr. med. Claus Luley at the University of Magdeburg, Germany. Overweight type 2 diabetics have been able to achieve excellent results in weight reduction, relevant health parameters, as well as, a reduction or elimination of diabetic medications by participating in the ABC Program.

The ABC Program utilizes the three-dimensional activity sensor, called AiperMotion 500. Day in and day out this device seamlessly monitors the patient’s essential data pertaining to weight loss, physical activity, nutritional intake and energy balance. Data is transmitted to the supervising diabetes educator/health coach via internet, creating a motivating feedback loop.

The success of the ABC Program lies in the unique combination of innovative tools. These include a newly developed diet, called the “Magdeburg dual diet”, which promotes low-glycemic, low-calorie intake, continuous monitoring of physical activity by the AiperMotion 500 activity sensor, along with web-based coaching support and motivation by the patient’s doctor and diabetes educator.

Findings from Clinical Trials with Type 2 Diabetes Patients
In the course of a controlled research study, 35 patients with type 2 diabetes reduced their weight by an average of 26.01 lbs. within six months, while the maximum weight loss was as high as 68.34 lbs. 51% managed to reduce their weight by more than 10%, while 27% actually achieved a 15% reduction in weight. At the same time, blood sugar, blood lipids and the gold standard of diabetes therapy, HbA1c levels, were also reduced. Research Results from Patients with Metabolic Syndrome: A total of 182 patients with metabolic syndrome participated in a further study (2 intervention groups and one control group) lasting one year, concluding April 2011. The clearest advancement in health was shown by the group which adhered to all components of the ABC program. On average, patients in this group lost 33.95 lbs. over a twelve month period and their metabolic parameters showed significant signs of improvement. Type-2 diabetes manifested in 11% of control group, compared to just 1% in the ABC Program group.

Telemedicine support and motivation are integral factors in the ABC program. This is where the AiperMotion activity sensor comes in. Unceasing motivation is key to success of dietary interventions. The immediately distinctive character of AiperMotion 500 achieves this in playful and sustainable fashion.

Telemonitoring Systems
Aipermon telemonitoring systems are distinguished by ease of installation. Our devices do not require configuration, and are immediately ready for use. The transmission of data takes place automatically, as soon as the measurements are taken by the patients. Measurements are recorded at the Aipermon Service Center, where they can be accessed by the relevant doctor, hospital, medical call center or coaches. Customers expect their future systems to be flexible, modular and reliable. We implement these criteria.

Base station
The central unit of a telemonitoring system at home is the base station. It receives measurement data, manages them and automatically sends it to the central Aipermon Service Center. The choice of base station depends upon the intended use and the availability of telephone, mobile phone or internet connection at the patient or user.

MMA 410 – Mobile Medical Assistant
The Mobile Medical Assistant (MMA 410) is a PDA specially developed for the communication between patients and telemedically supervising doctors. The MMA 410 is the successor of Aipermon’s MMA 400. By switching to Android additional functionalities could be integrated and cost advantages were achieved.

The MMA 400 receives measured data from telemedically implemented devices like scales, blood pressure measuring devices, ECG, activity sensors and others. It enables an efficient and location-independent telemonitoring, as measured data is transferred via mobile communication to the Internet server (Aipermon Service Center). From there, the data is sent to the respective customer database.

Featuring a range of up to 100m, the MMA can be upgraded with added transfer equipment (AiperRep = Repeater) to cover a larger area.

Data transfer
The Mobile Medical Assistant can be used as fully equipped communication device. Besides data transfer, it is able to receive feedback from the medical support center. This way, medical suggestions, current information and status reports on the current health status can be displayed.

Physical health can be recorded by pressing one of the colored input buttons. The green button on top is used for ‘very good’, the red button on the bottom for ‘very bad’. After input, this value is automatically transferred.

Ein innovatives, kosteng�nstiges Vakuum-Manifold f�r alle Filterplatten im SBS-Standard. Die Einzelkomponenten des Manifolds sind aus getempertem, transparentem Acryl hergestellt. Die Anschlu�t�lle aus PTFE und die Gummidichtungen aus synthetischem Kautschuk. Das Manifold kann problemlos mit normalen Laborreinigern, milden Detergentien, gereinigt werden.

Das AHN Manifold besteht aus folgenden Einzelteilen:
1 St�ck Vakuumkammer-Unterteil zur Aufnahme der Receiverplatten (H=50 mm)
1 St�ck Vakuum-Anschlu�t�lle zum Einschrauben in das Vakuumkammer-Unterteil
1 St�ck Vakuumkammer-Oberteil zur Aufnahme der Filterplatte (H=20 mm)
1 St�ck Spacer-Lochplatte zum Einlegen in das Vakuumkammer-Unterteil (H=22 mm)

Inbetriebnahme der Vakuumkammer:
1. Das Manifold (Vakuumkammer) ist grunds�tzlich f�r alle g�ngigen Filterplatten im Mikro-titrationsplatten-Format nach SBS-Standard (Society for Biomolecular Screening) geeignet und ausgelegt.

2. Die Anschlu�t�lle f�r den Vakuumschlauch in das entsprechende Gewindeloch (Rechtsgewinde) des Unterteils der Vakuumkammer schrauben. Anschlu�t�lle und Vakuumpumpe mit einem normalen Labor-Vakuumschlauch verbinden.

3. Eine Receiver- oder Deepwell-Platte (SBS-Standard Ma�e) zur Aufnahme des Filtrats in das Unterteil der Vakuumkammer stellen. Soll das Filtrat in einer normalen Mikrotitrationsplatte gesammelt werden, zun�chst die Spacerplatte als Abstandsverk�rzung in das Unterteil der Vakuumkammer legen und dann die Mikrotitrationsplatte darauf plazieren.

4. Das Oberteil der Vakuumkammer so auf das Unterteil plazieren, das die F�hrungsnippel des Unterteils in die Passbohrungen des Oberteils gef�hrt werden. Bei Platten, die nicht dem SBS-Standard erf�llen, kann es notwendig sein, zu Beginn des Vakuums die Platten per Hand leicht gegen das Dichtungsgummi zu dr�cken (leichter Druck auf die Platte). Die St�rke des anzulegenden Vakuums ist nicht vom Manifold, sondern von der Filterbeschaffenheit und der Filtrationsfl�ssigkeit abh�ngig und kann daher individuell definiert werden.
